Vale Gidgee (August 2011)
The Club received an email in early August with sad news from long time Club Member and Activity Instructor, Sandra Walker:
“Last Saturday at the Port Macquarie trial my Gidgee became ill suddenly and unfortunately died on Saturday evening. She had just turned 9. I didn't know that she was sick, but apparently her spleen ruptured due to a large tumour.
I am not sure what to write about Gidgee. I cer-tainly could write a book about what we packed into 9 years!
I believe that Gidgee had the most titles in different disciplines in the history of the club: obedience, agility, jumping, herding and endurance.
From the moment I got Gidgee she was an enthusiastic, energetic full on dog. She excelled in whatever she did and always gave 10,000%.
Gidgee taught me a lot and has made me a better dog trainer. She was an exciting dog to watch with agility and with working sheep. Gidgee often made her own decisions when doing agility and working sheep. Sometimes her decisions were not ones that I would have made!
Gidgee had a presence. When I ran agility with her I could feel her power and speed.
Gidgee was an incredibly intelligent dog, always wanting to learn something new. She could read my mind and was always 3 steps ahead of me.
I will miss my Gidgee. She was my champion!”
Gidgee’s untimely passing reminds us of the truth in the quote by Agnes Sligh Turnbull: “Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.”
